Your urologist in Hamilton Ontario presents Rezum
What are the benefits of Rezum?
Rezum is a minimally invasive procedure that is done without a general anesthetic or spinal anesthetic. It is done as an outpatient basis. Recovery is quick with minimal pain. Rezum leads to better flow, less frequency and urgency. Unlike most benign prostatic hyperplasia operations, Rezum does not affect your ability to have erections or ejaculate. Rezum is long-lasting.
How do you know if Rezum is right for you?
If you have bothersome symptoms, have failed medications or have side-effects from medications. Rezum may be right for you.
Will you have to stay at the hospital after treatment?
No hospital stay is needed. Rezum is done at Lotus Surgical Centre which is a College approved surgical facility.
When will you see improvement?
Most men will notice an improvement in voiding soon after the procedure. Improvements will continue for several weeks after REZUM.
Does a urologist have to be specially trained to perform Rezum?
Top urologists in Toronto should be trained and experienced in performing Rezum. Dynamiq Urology at Lotus Surgical Centre is a College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario Approved Centre for Rezum.
What is the post-treatment protocol?
After Rezum there is swelling in the prostate so you will go home with a catheter. The length of the catheter depends on the prostate size and bladder function. This will be reviewed by your urologist.
Are there any side effects?
Temporary discomfort with the catheter is the most common side-effect. Burning may occur in some patients for a short period. Flow can be intermittent initially.
How long do the results usually last?
Studies have shown that Rezum lasts as long as standard operations such as TURPs (transurethral resection of the prostate). The need to go on medications or repeating surgery down the road is less than 4.4.% over 5 years.
Who is eligible for Rezum treatment?
Patients who are bothered by their urinary symptoms, those who have failed medical therapy or those who have side-effects (dizziness, retrograde ejaculation etc) are eligible for Rezum treatment.
Anyone that can undergo a local procedure with freezing and light IV sedation is eligible for Rezum. Those on blood thinners can be reviewed by the urologist performing Rezum.
